CHRISTY FAGAN netted his third goal in two games to help secure a 2-0 win for Bohemians over Drogheda United at Dalymount Park. The howling wind and freezing rain did not deter the Gypsies as they set about claiming only their third league win of the campaign and follow on from beating Bray Wanderers. The in-form Fagan showed his sharpness on six minutes to put the home team ahead after Anthony Flood played him through following a mix up in the Drogheda backline. Flood then made sure of the win when he netted from close range in the second half after the visitors failed to clear a corner and Robert Bayly squared to the deadly striker. Although it was Fagan who got Bohs moving in this game by opening the scoring. It was the fifth goal of the year for the ex-Manchester United trainee who is turning out to be a shrewd signing for Pat Fenlon’s side and linked up well with Flood. On 19 minutes it was Flood’s turn to try to add his name to the scoresheet when Fagan set him away, but Drogheda keeper Stephen Trimble denied him with a fine save. The visiting shot-stopper then tipped a long-range strike from Mark Rossiter over the bar as Bohs piled on the pressure and Drogheda struggled to get any sort of momentum going. Colin O’Brien then cleared a Liam Burns effort off the goal line before Robert Bayly went close with two efforts – the second of which was expertly saved by Trimble. It ws more of the same after the break as Bohs continued to press forward at every opportunity and Fagan should have hit the target on 50 minuted when he headed over the bar. Trimble then got down low to deny Flood at the near post, but was unable to stop the ex-Shelbourne ace from scoring on 59 minutes when he peeled away from his marker and slotted in. Drogheda made some changes and tried to drag themselves back into this contest, but their long-range efforts never really troubled Bohs keeper Barry Murphy, who had little to do. In the end, it was a comfortable win for Bohs who move onto 32 points and keep their bright start to the second half of the season going.
