CHRISTY FAGAN'S double enabled Bohemians to snatch their first win in four league games with a narrow victory over previously high-flying Bray Wanderers at the Carlisle Grounds.

It was a disappointing display by the Seagulls and ended a six match unbeaten run in competitive games to seriously thwart their hopes of European football next season.

Fagan (22) had an early chance for the visitors only to shoot wide of target from 15 yards after Mark Rossiter had created the opening on the left.

Irish Under 19 international Conor Murphy then set up a chance for John Mulroy, whose deflected shot was grabbed by Bohs 'keeper Barry Murphy only to be fouled by Dane Massey - an action which earned him a yellow card from Dublin referee Derek Tomney.

Then a free by the always impressive Joe Kendrick on the left allowed the unmarked Derek Prendergast to get in a powerful header but straight into the arms of 'keeper Murphy.

The Seagulls went close to breaking the deadlock on 35 minutes Chris Shields put Massey down the left only for his cross to be glanced wide by the head of Mulroy.

Perhaps against the run of play Bohemians took the lead on 36 minutes when following a Killian Brennan corner on the right, Fagan got in a header brilliantly pushed out at close range by 'keeper Matt Gregg. But Fagan was quickest to react when gleefully firing home the rebound into the unguarded net.

Bohemians stretched their lead on 47 minutes when a misdirected back-header by defender Shane O'Connor allowed Fagan to nip in a shoot past Gregg from eight yards for his fourth goal of the season.

Bray did have a chance to reduce the lead on 70 minutes when skipper Gary Dempsey supplied an opening for Shane O'Neill only for Shane O'Neill to shoot wide of the target.

Dempsey pulled a goal back for the home side on 79 minutes when collecting a pass from Shane O'Connor on the right he let fly from the edge of the box with the ball taking a slight deflection before entering the net. Then late on, the inspirational Dempsey and Murphy both fired just wide as Bray threw everything forward in search of that elusive equaliser.
