SLIGO ROVERS and league top scorer Eoin Doyle took his tally to double figures for the season with a brilliant brace to down Galway United at the Showgrounds.

Doyle pounced for his seventh goal in just three games when directing Aaron Greene’s cross past Greg Fleming and into the net on 17 minutes to open the scoring.

The visitors found themselves two down within four minutes, as Alan Kirby carved them open down the right and crossed for  Greene, who was denied by a fine stop from Fleming.

The rebound fell to the excellent John Russell, however, and he couldn’t miss from eight yards out.

It was harsh on Fleming, who also made excellent first half stops to keep out headers from Russell and Jason McGuinness.

Doyle could also have had a second in the opening half when he found space inside the box, but his effort flashed wide of the post.

But he made no mistake three minutes into the second half, when Joseph Ndo released Alan Keane to cross for the striker to flick home from six yards.

It wrapped up a deserved win for the home side, who leapfrog Derry City and go third in the table as a result.
