BOHEMIANS got back to winning ways with a comfortable away win over Premier Division strugglers Galway United in Terryland Park. Goals from Anto Flood and Keith Buckley in either half were enough to ensure a first win in six for the visitors over the Westerners. The writing was on the wall for the inexperienced home side after 12 minutes when Flood’s accurate header from eight yards trickled past Greg Fleming in the Galway goal. The first quarter was dominated by the visitors who should have doubled their lead shortly after only for Keith Buckley to scuff a glorious chance from inside the area. The youthful home team could only muster a couple of long-range efforts through Enda Curran as a response to the onslaught. Yet the Tribesmen got to grips with their opponents as the half progressed and could have even drawn level on the half-hour mark had Sean Kelly’s strike from the edge of the area not been deflected wide. United finished the half positively as well, curbing the continuing threat of Flood and forcing a few corners at the other end. Nonetheless the counter-attacking threat of Bohemians was a constant cause of concern for a small Galway defensive unit. Galway continued to improve in the second half but only remained in the contest when the crossbar came to their rescue after an audacious lob from Flood on 55 minutes. Their luck ran out a minute later when the same player forced a save from Fleming only for Buckley to atone for an earlier miss by drilling home from 18 yards. The misery could have piled on for the home team had Stephen Traynor and Killian Brennan been more fortunate with two great efforts in the following ten minutes. In the end, two goals were more than enough to provide a much needed boost for Pat Fenlon’s men.
