DANNY O'CONNOR'S header midway through the second half was enough to give Bray Wanderers their first away league victory over UCD in a decade.

Pat Devlin's Seagulls came out on top after a closely contested Premier Division encounter at the Belfield Bowl.

College did have a chance on 27 minutes after striker Graham Rusk was taken down by Adam Mitchell 30 yards from goal. But the resulting free by Dean Marshall was comfortably blocked by a wall of Bray defenders.

With defences totally on top, Sean Harding blazed over from long range for the Students before Bray created the first real opening of the night on 36 minutes.

A long throw-in on the right by defender Dave Webster was flicked on by Danny O'Connor to cause chaos in the home defence. Mitchell then had a first time effort from 12 yards brilliantly blocked by 'keeper Ger Barron.

Seconds before the interval College might have broken the deadlock when a long ball from Robbie Creevy put Graham Rusk in the clear. But the striker failed to control the ball on the difficult playing surface and 'keeper Matt Gregg was quickly off his line to save.

Early in the second half Bray spurned a chance when a corner by Joe Kendrick on the right was headed just over the bar by striker Chris Shields - but that was one of the few scoring opportunities in a lack-lustre affair.

Up the other end, a foul by Derek Prendergast on Rusk led to midfielder Paul Corry's free from 25 yards but again over the top with Gregg not called into action.

The Seagulls at last got their noses in front on 68 minutes after a foul by Tomas Boyle on winger Shane O'Neill. The precision free by Kendrick on the left was powerfully headed home from eight yards by Danny O'Connor giving 'keeper Barron no chance.

Substitute Yael Haro twice went close to an equaliser for College, his first effort well saved by Gregg - the second just wide of the upright with Bray happy to hold out for a valuable three points.
