GALWAY UNITED claimed their first victory of the season after a tight affair at Dalymount Park.   English striker Jospeh Yoffe struck the only goal on the hour to lead his side to a precious win.  After a tame opening to the encounter Killian Brennan almost broke the deadlock with a 16th minute effort that would have earned plaudits on any stage.  Drifting in from the right wing, Brennan beat a number of players before producing a crisp low strike that whistled just wide of Greg Fleming’s left upright.  Similarly impressive skill by Karl Moore on the left flank carved out an opportunity for Galway in the 22nd minute. The ball dropped for Alan Miurphy at the edge of the box but his powerful strike was blocked by Aidan Price.  Galway almost claimed a freak opener in the 36th minute when a Mark Rossiter clearance hits Joseph Yoffe and loops over Bohs keeper Barry Murphy, who was relieved to see the ball land just wide of his right post.  Yoffe had another chance from a Moore cross in first half injury-time but he headed across the face of goal.  Brennan was unfortunate not to hit the target in spectacular fashion in the 56th minute when he burst into the penalty area only to see his low strike deflected inches wide by Shaun Kelly.  Four minutes later the Tribesmen took the lead. Moore’s cross fell to Yoffe in the six yard box. He appeared to be crowded out but he kept his composure and eventually found the room to fire home from close range.  Bohs passed up an excellent opportunity to level in the 69th minute when Ollie Cahill fired in a cross from the left but it was headed wide from close range by substitute David Lodola.  Home keeper Barry Murphy was forced into a top class save to prevent his namesake Alan Murphy firing Galway two up in the 75th min when he dived full length to tip over Murphy’s blistering strike.  Three minutes later the Gypsies had a let off when Stephen Walshe headed just over from a Bobby Ryan corner.  In injury-time Galway keeper Greg Fleming was forced to make two important stops to deny Bohs an equaliser.  Fleming threw himself at a header by substitute Keith Buckley from an Aidan Price cross to push wide in the 94th minute.  From the resulting corner Lee Dixon sent in a powerful header and Fleming did well once more to tip over and secure the three points.   Bohemians: B Murphy; Heary, Cahill, Burns, Price, Brennan, Bayly (Dixon 61), Rossiter, Burke, Flood (Lodola 61), Traynor (Buckley 86).  Galway United: Fleming; Shaun Kelly, Maher, Sinnott, Walshe, Cash, G Curran, A Murphy, Moore, Ryan, Yoffe (E Curran 78).  Referee: Alan Kelly (Cork)   |
