Galway United’s place in the relegation play-off was confirmed on Friday night after the Tribesmen were defeated by Sporting Fingal.

Although they remain in fourth place, the win pushes Sporting Fingal to within one point of St. Patrick’s Athletic.

Alan Kirby opened the scoring after just three minutes, with Colin Hawkins heading the visitors into a 2-0 lead just eight minutes later.

Defender Lorcan Fitzgerald scored his first of the season on 72 minutes to make it 3-0 before Galway pulled back a consolation on 84 minutes through Stephen Walsh.
