Alan Keane proved a dramatic hero for Sligo Rovers as they came from behind to beat Bray at The Showgrounds on Tuesday night. Keane held his nerve to convert from the spot in the final minute, after substitute Eoin Doyle had been bundled over in the box by Dave Webster. Webster ultimately saw red for arguing the decision, while Rovers still dropped to fourth in the table on account of St Pat’s defeat of Drogheda. But they will be mightily relieved to have taken all three points after Gary Dempsey had fired the visitors into a 69th minute lead with a stunning free-kick. Bray also hit the post in the opening half, when Dean Zambra saw his close range effort come back off the upright on the half-hour mark. But EA Sports Cup final hero Matthew Blinkhorn levelled matters five minutes later when he headed Gary McCabe’s cross past Matt Gregg. And the home side sneaked a deserved win in the final minute, when Doyle went to ground under Webster’s challenge, and Keane stepped up to confidently hammer the ball to the bottom corner. Sligo: Gibson, Keane, Peers, Lauchlan, Davoren, McCabe, Ryan, Russell, Ndo, Boco (Doyle 68), Blinkhorn. Bray: Gregg, Webster, Mitchell, Prendergast, Massey, Zambra, Dempsey, O’Connor, Doyle, Tuohy (O’Neill 87), Shields. Referee: D Tomney. |
