Shamrock Rovers doubled their lead at the top of the Airtricity League Premier Division with a comfortable 3-0 win over Galway United at Tallaght Stadium. Two goals from Gary Twigg and another from Craig Sives was enough to give the Hoops a six point lead at the top of the table, with just five games remaining. This was Rovers’ second win over Galway in a week, having defeated the Tribesmen 6-0 in the FAI Ford Cup last week. Twigg opened the scoring on 10 minutes when he tapped in at the far post after great work by Neale Fenn on the byline. It was 2-0 on 26 minutes and again it was Twigg who did the damage, the striker moving to the top of the Premier Division goalscoring chart after volleying home from eight yards after Chambers crossed from the right. The game was put beyond any doubt on 32 minutes when Sives headed home from a corner kick. Clearly content to stick to a 3-0 scoreline, Rovers took the foot off the pedal in the second period and, despite periods of good play from the visitors, ran out comfortable winners.
