Bohemians missed out on the opportunity to narrow the gap at the top of the table to just one point when they were held to a 1-1 draw by Sligo Rovers. Bohs went into the match knowing that a win would put them within touching distance of Shamrock Rovers. However, while a draw at The Showgrounds keeps their title hopes alive, it leaves a three point difference between the Gypsies and the Hoops, with Rovers having a match in hand. After an even opening period, Bohs opened the scoring just after the half-hour mark when Mark Quigley’s free kick made it 1-0. However, disaster struck just minutes later when Killian Brennan was shown a straight red card for an incident with Alan Keane. With an extra man, Sligo Rovers gradually took over the running of affairs and it became a matter of time before they found the equalizer. Their goal came on 57 minutes when John Russell fired in a low shot past Chris O’Connor. The home side piled on the pressure for the last half hour and will feel that they should have scored again. However, Bohemians held out for a result which keeps their title dream alive. |
