St Pat’s have opened up a two-point lead at the top of the Airtricity League Premier Division after a scoreless draw with Sligo Rovers at The Showgrounds. The Saints’ best chance of a match lacking in quality from an attacking sense, came shortly before half-time, when Ryan Guy Skillfully cut in from the right and fired a left-foot shot that Rovers goalkeeper Richard Brush did brilliantly to tip over the crossbar. Either side of that chance, the excellent John Dillon twice threatened for the home side. Firstly he directed a shot straight at Pat’s keeper Gary Rogers after breaking in from the left-hand side. Then he flashed a shot just too high from outside the area, after latching onto the ball in the centre of the park. Joseph Ndo also went close with a speculative half-volley, after Rogers had been caught out of his box in the early stages. But a draw proved a fair result, with neither team offering much attacking flair in the closing stages. Sligo: Brush, Whelan (Foran ht), Peers, Ventre, Davoren, Dillon, Ryan, Russell, Doyle (Doninger 90), Ndo, Amond. St Pat’s: Rogers, Lynch, Kenna, Guthrie, Bermingham, Guy, McAllister, Byrne, Mulcahy, Doyle (Cash 82), Faherty (Byrne 85). Ref: P Sutton. |
