Robert Bayly struck late to rescue a point for Shamrock Rovers and deny Drogheda United a famous win at Tallaght Stadium. The Drogheda revolution under new manager Darius Kierans continued as the Boynesiders came within eight minutes of taking all three points from Dublin 24. Both sides had enough chances to win the match, although a point better serves the visitors as Rovers miss out on the chance to go into the mid-season break as joint league leaders. James Chambers struck the woodwork with a free kick in the game’s first real chance. Marksman Gary Twigg also came close but his snap shot went wide. Dessie Baker had a great chance to put the home side ahead early in the second half but he blasted over from close range. Rovers piled on pressure but it was the visitors who took the lead on 67 minutes when John Flood slipped the ball beyond Mannus and into the net. Rovers could not find the target and it appeared as though Drogheda were going to take all three points. However, a stunning drive from Bayly secured one point.
