Bohemians moved back up to fifth place in the Airtricity Premier Division table when an unfortunate early own goal by defender Daire Doyle and then a late strike by winger Killian Brennan gave them an unconvincing victory over basement club Bray Wanderers at the Carlisle Grounds. The Seagulls, though much improved from last Saturday's 5-1 hammering away to Sligo Rovers, still look like favourites for relegation with now just one win in 15 league games and still six points adrift of second from bottom Drogheda United. Bohemians had two early chances when first Jason Byrne had a volley blocked by 'keeper Brian Kane and then Brennan's effort was pushed away by 'defender Doyle. Wanderers did have a chance on eight minutes when John Mulroy set up a chance for Shane O'Neill only for the lone striker to fire over the top from long range. The champions took the lead on 13 minutes after Glenn Cronin enabled Gareth McGlynn to get in a cross from the left which Mark Quigley attempted to head into Byrne's path. But Doyle then had the misfortune to fire into his own net in an attempted clearance. Bohemians should really have stretched their lead on 26 minutes when a perfect cross by Brennan was blazed over the bar by striker Byrne when a goal looked on the cards. Mark Quigley and Byrne then went close as Bohemians dominated the first half exchanges. The visitors squandered further opportunities when Quigley and Brennan combined well only for former Bray man Byrne to side-foot past the gaping goal. Then defender Ken Oman twice hit the woodwork in added time of the first half as Bohemians piled on the pressure. Byrne had another chance on the hour but was just too slow to react to a Quigley header into the box after a free by Paul Keegan. For all their dominance, the Dalymount Park club failed to impose their authority in the second half with Keegan again firing over on 63 minutes. Bray were growing in confidence and might have grabbed an equaliser on 71 minutes when Shane O'Neill was just too slow to get a touch to a low cross from Dane Massey on the left. But it was Bohemians back on the attack in the final stages when substitute Paddy Madden hooked a shot well off target after Byrne had created the opening. But it was Brennan who made sure of the three points on 86 minutes after Brian Shelley burst down the right to shoot on target only for Doyle to block his effort on the line. Brennan made no mistake with the rebound firing home from the edge of the area past 'keeper Kane.
