Sporting Fingal picked up three valuable points at the Morton Stadium on Saturday as they beat Galway United 2-0.
The Ravens had to wait until the second-half to break the deadlock, but the goals from Ronan Finn and Eamon Zayed were certainly worth waiting for.  It was clear from early on that Liam Buckley's men would control this game as Shaun Maher headed over from a Conan Byrne corner.  That was a sign of things to come as the hosts grew in confidence with Lorcan Fitzgerald blasting over when he should have at least hit the target.  Then Ger O'Brien was denied from close range when his header was saved by rookie keeper Daire Geraghty, who was standing in for the suspended Barry Ryan.  Galway rarely threatened with Stephen O'Donnell way off-target with their only chance in the first period.  Sporting's positive play was rewarded on 53 minutes when Finn picked up a pass from Fitzgerald and let rip with an unstoppable effort from 30 yards out.  The Tribesmen had the perfect opportunity to respond when a deflected shot from Anthony Flood landed in front of Gary Curran, but he dragged his shot wide.  Up the other end, it was all about how many goals the home team were going to score. Shaun Williams smashed a long-range shot against the post and Finn brought the best out of Geraghty.  But the win was wrapped up on 76 minutes when substitute Eamon Zayed linked up well with Williams before placing his shot into the back of the net.  The win means that Sporting move onto 25 points and remain very much part of the Premier Division title race.  Sporting Fingal: Clarke; O'Brien, Maher, Gannon, Fitzgerald; Finn, Williams, Kirby; Byrne, Crowe (Zayed 63), Quinn (Barrett 80).  Substitutes Not Used: Quigley, Dawson, James.  Galway United: Geraghty; Sinnott, Heary, McKenzie, Creaney; King (Molloy 75), Curran, O'Donnell, Foley, Ryan; Flood.  Substitutes Not Used: Keane, McBrien.  Referee: A Buttimer (Cork)  |
