Two excellently taken first half goals from strikers Anto Flood and Karl Sheppard made it three wins in five games for improving Galway United with a deserved victory over bottom of the table Bray Wanderers at the Carlisle Grounds last night.

Galway had an early chance when a corner on the right by Cian Brien was only partially headed clear by veteran Bray defender Colm Tresson. From the rebound Thomas Heary fired over from 14 yards.

But the Westerners had their noses in front after nine minutes when a clever ball from Gary Curran allowed Flood to cut in from the left and fire a hot into the top right hand corner from 20 yards.

Striker Sheppard had a header just wide moments later after a Curran cross from the right. But there was to be no denying Galway who stretched their lead on 19 minutes after a defensive blunder by James Kavanagh.

Flood was allowed to supply a defence splitting pass to the 19 year old Sheppard  who made no mistake shooting past advancing 'keeper Brian Kane from 14 yards.

And Galway almost had a third goal after 24 minutes when a Curran cross set up the chance for Creaney to get in a 20 yard effort headed off the line by defender Dane Massey with his 'keeper beaten.

Galway 'keeper Rhys Meynell, normally a defender, was forced to start in goal because of the suspension of regular first team man Barry Ryan and injury to his deputy Seamus Friel.

But the 21 year old Barnsley-born man was rarely tested although he did show his new-found ability between the posts when getting down well to block a 30 yard free from Dave Webster at the far post just before the interval.
