UCD made it a double over Drogheda United when goals in each half from Greg Bolger and Ciaran Kilduff  gave them a convincing victroy over an out of sorts United side at the Belfield Bowl last night.

It was an empatic a win for College as that over the County Louth club on the opening day of the season and means that Martin Lawlor's team remain stranded second from bottom of the Premier Division table.

With the first really threatening move of the first half,  Drogheda might have taken the lead on 25 minutes whwn Jamie Duffy played a ball back to defender Corie Treacy. His accurate cross was  flicked wide of the target by Michel Daly.

The visitors had another opportunity when a Brendan McGill corner on the right allowed John Flood to climb above the home defence only to head wide when it seemed he must score.

The Students  did have a chance to break the deadlock on 33 minutes when Paul Corry cut in from the right only for striker Chris Mulhall to fire over the bar from the edge of the box.

College did take the lead on 41 minutes when Corry played a ball through to Ciaran Kilduff who flicked on for Mulhall who was taken down inside the area by Joe Kendrick . Greg Bolger made no mistake with the resulting penalty.

Peter McMahon went close to stretching the home side's lead secondsw afterward but shot straight over the bar from 20 yards. Then in first half added time  Kendrick set up a chance for Drogheda skipper Alan McNally only for his header to be well saved by College 'keeper Billy Brennan.

The Students stretched their lead  in the first minute of the second half when a long cross from the left by defender Paul Harding allowed the unmarked Kilduff to get in a downward header from six yards past 'keeper Paul Murphy.

Drogheda did have two chances to reduce the lead only for Colm Smith to head wide and then Brian King shooting over the top when well-placed. But the best opportunity fell toJohn Flood on 72 minutes when he shot wide from close range after 'keeper Brennan lost possession in attempting a kicked clearance.
