Sporting Fingal missed the opportunity to reclaim top spot in the Airtricity League Premier Division when they were held to a scoreless draw at the UCD Bowl.

A win for Liam Buckley’s side would have put them back on top of the table, albeit with an extra game played. However, the draw leaves Fingal in third place and gives Shamrock Rovers, Bohemians and Sligo Rovers, who are all in hot pursuit of Fingal, the opportunity to narrow the gap when they all play on Friday night.

Both sides had opportunities to take all three points from this fixture. UCD’s David McMillian forced a good save from Darren Quigley when he found himself through on goal in the first half.

Brian Shortall also almost put the home side in the lead but his shot on 52 minutes went over the crossbar.

Gary O’Neill had a good chance at the other end with 15 minutes remaining but his shot went wide.
