St.Patrick's Athletic charged back to the top of the Airtricity League Premier Division table with an emphatic victory over bottom side Bray Wanderers in a one-sided affair at the Carlisle Grounds.

Four goals in an amazing 14 first half minutes gave St. Patrick’s Athletic a commanding win.

St.Pat's missed a chance of breaking the deadlock on 20 minutes central defender Shane Guthrie opened up the home defence to set up a chance for Vinny Faherty. But the striker slipped when trying to set up the chance for Paul Byrne with veteran Colm Tresson making the vital clearance.

But there was to be no denying the Inchicore men as they grabbed the lead just seven minutes later. David McAllister found Brian Cash on the right who then whipped over a cross for ex- Bray man Paul Byrne to head home at the far post.

St.Pat's stretched their lead on 34 minutes when a Conor Sinnott free on the left allowed skipper Conor Kenna to get in a glancing header past the despairing dive of Bray 'keeper Brian Kane.

Another Sinnott free on the left led to a third goal for St.Pat's on 38 minutes when Guthrie ghosted past two Bray defenders to head into the net.

The agony went on for the Seagulls with Pete Mahon's on-fire side adding a fourth goal five minutes before the interval. This time Kenna set up the chance for Byrne to knock the ball down for Gareth Coughlan to fire home from 22 yards.

The visitors continued to dominate in the second half when Sinnott had a 22 yard free well saved by under pressure 'keeper Kane on 56 minutes. Brian Cash did have the ball in the Bray net three minutes later only to be ruled off-side.

Bray offered only token resistance although midfielder Chris Shields' 20 yard shot did force St.Pat's ' keeper Gary Rogers into an excellent finger-tip save on 70 minutes. But the match as a contest had been decided by half-time with both clubs going through the motions in those final 45 minutes.
