Sporting Fingal went top of the Airtricity League Premier Division with a 2-1 win over Dundalk at Morton Stadium.

Alan Kirby slotted home the winner from the penalty spot to end Dundalk’s unbeaten run and leapfrog over the Lilywhites into top spot.

It was Dundalk player Wayne Hatswell who gave Fingal the lead, putting the ball past his own goalkeeper on 10 minutes.

Fingal had the lions share of possession in the first half and could have extended their lead when Kirby went close.

However, Dundalk came out fighting in the second half and it took them just eight minutes to equalize, JJ Melligan taking advantage of sloppy defending and hooking the ball past the advancing Darren Quigley.

However, the home side took the lead on the hour mark when Garry Breen tripped Gary O’Neill and Kirby slotted home.

Sporting Fingal (4-3-3): Quigley; O'Brien, Maher, Browne, Fitzgerald; Finn, McFaul, Kirby; C. Byrne, O'Neill (Crowe 88), Zayed.

Dundalk (4-4-2): Cherrie; Kelly (J. Breen 80), Burns, G. Breen, Hatswell; Melligan, Miller, Maher, Gaynor; Kuduzovic, Fenn

Referee: T. Connolly (Dublin)
