Bray Wanderers earned their first point of the new campaign when they held Drogheda United to a scoreless draw in an entertaining encounter at Hunky Dorys Park.

The result leaves the gap between the two teams at two points, but Bray manager Eddie Gormley will be hoping it will give his players a platform to kick-start their season.

While his Drogheda counterpart, Alan Mathews, will no doubt have wanted to claim all three points against the Seagulls, he will no doubt be happy that his defence, who had been leaking goals of late, managed to keep a clean sheet.

Michael Daly rattled the crossbar for the home side early on with a shot from outside the box.

Bray grew in confidence and it was the home side who were thanking the intervention of the woodwork when both Richie Baker and Shane O’Neill struck the crossbar.

Baker did have the ball in the net later on, only for the goal to be ruled out through offside, while Colm Tresson also had a goal ruled out for a push.
