Dundalk shared a point with St Patrick's Athletic in a 0-0 draw at Oriel Park on Friday evening as both teams further extended their unbeaten starts to the season.

 

Alex Williams, playing against his former club, was first to try his luck with a snap shot inside the opening 10 minutes as St Pat's tried to take an early advantage.

 

Tom Miller and Wayne Hatswell came close for The Lilywhites, who once again showed in glimpses that they can be a real attacking tour de force once they get going.

 

David McAllister gave the hosts a wake-up call with a stunning shot from long-range that was saved by Dundalk keeper Peter Cherrie, who also did well to deny Conor Kenna later on in the game.

 

Hatswell again threatened to break the deadlock with a powerful header, but Gary Rogers was up to the task of denying the experienced defender.

 

As time was ticking down Williams broke through and should have finished, although Cherrie denied his former team-mate with a crucial block.
