Galway United recorded their first win of the 2010 Airtricity League season when they defeated Bray Wanderers 2-1 at Terryland Park. Early strikes from Karl Sheppard and Derek O’Brien gave the home side a 2-0 lead, only for Philip Knight to pull one back for the visitors. For the second game in succession, however, Bray Wanderers played well but failed to record any points. Galway opened the scoring on 21 minutes when Sheppard finished after Bray ‘keeper Brian Kane had saved an effort from Gary Curran. Six minutes later they doubled their lead. Bobby Ryan and Sheppard combined before Derek O’Brien grabbed his first goal of the season. Sheppard struck the woodwork shortly after, before Knight dragged Bray back into the game on 41 minutes when he fired home from inside the box.
