St. Patrick's Athletic got back to winning ways at Richmond Park when they overcame Drogheda United 2-1. Following heavy defeats to both Bohemians and Derry City, the Saints needed a win over Drogs. The three points were secured by goals from Andy Haran and Stuart Byrne, with Mark Duggan pulling one back for the visitors. Haran struck after 12 minutes when he took advantage of slack defending to fire the ball home from inside the penalty area. The game had a familiar pattern for Drogheda, who once again matched their opponents in every area bar the scoring. The Saints went 2-0 up after 55 minutes when Mark Quigley found Byrne, who fired a rocket past Steve Williams in the Drogs goal. Alan Mathews' side did manage to pull one back when Duggan headed a Jamie Duffy cross into the net. However, one was not enough for the Drogs, who remain rooted to the bottom of the table. St Patrick's Athletic: Rogers, Harris, Byrne, Gavin, Stevens, Guy, Lynch, Maher (Fagan 83), Cawley, Quigley, Haran (Moran 61). Drogheda United: Williams, Chambers, Osbourne, Kenna, Ryan, Shields (Woods h/t), King (McNally 70), Whelan, Duffy, Crowley (Salmon 60), Duggan. Ref: A Kelly (Cork). |
