Mark Leech opened his account for St. Patrick's Athletic to give the Saints victory over Sligo Rovers at The Showgrounds. Leech struck from close range just after the half hour mark. The ex-Shamrock Rovers and Drogheda United striker pounced after Richard Brush could only deflect Jason Gavin's shot. The win continues the Saints' march up the table and gives them their second 1-0 win on the bounce following their opening night 3-0 disaster against Galway United. With Gary Dempsey returned to the St. Pat's midfield, Jeff Kenna's side were worthy winners of this clash. Sligo Rovers did have their chances, however, especially when Raffaele Cretaro did well to get a shot in shortly before the half time break, only for Gary Rogers to save. Sligo: Richard Brush, Danny Ventre, Gavin Peers, Alan Keane, Shaun Holmes, Brian Cash (Richie Ryan 70), Conor O'Grady (captain), Romuald Boco, Owen Morrison (Paul McTiernan 81), Raffaele Cretaro, Stephen Parkhouse (Steve Feeney 89). St Pat's: Gary Rogers, Jason Gavin (captain), Jamie Harris, David Partridge, Enda Stevens, Gareth O'Connor (Ryan Guy 50), Alan Cawley (Stuart Byrne 76), Gary Dempsey, Darragh Ryan, Mark Leech, Kyle Moran (Mark Quigley 70). Referee: Dave McKeon. |
