Teenager Paddy Madden bagged a brace as Bohemians grabbed a crucial win at Terryland Park.

The Gypsies showed exactly why they are champions claiming a superb victory despite a defensive injury crisis which saw Pat Fenlon forced to partner Anto Murphy with Brian Shelley at the heart of the Dubliners defence.

Galway’s midfield options have been restricted in recent weeks, and the absence of John Russell and Alan Murphy robbed the Tribesmen of creativity, and Bohs punished the Tribesmen.

With their restructured team Bohs were anxious to make a decent start, and Joseph Ndo flashed a first minute shot wide following an Anto Murphy delivery.

Then in the fifth minute Ndo and Paul Keegan carved a chance for Gary Deegan, who failed to summon a precise finish.

Bohs were moving the ball about impressively and a ninth minute Killian Brennan cross found Anto Murphy, who thumped a header on target which Barry Ryan saved.

Paul Keegan was next to test Ryan in the 31st minute, but the Galway custodian made another good stop.

Galway attacker Aaron Greene’s pace was a threat on the break, the teenager set up Dave Cooke, who rifled wide as the locals improved going on at the break on terms.

But the game’s complexion altered significantly in the third quarter as Bohemians regained the initiative.  Paddy Madden missed a gilt edged chance on 51 before steering the Gypsies ahead seconds later.

Ndo fed Conor Powell, and his blocked shot spun favourably for Jason Byrne, who centred for Madden, and the youngster whipped Bohemians into the lead.

Madden was a constant threat and doubled Bohemians advantage in the 59th minute when smashing a crisp strike past Ryan.
