CORK City will have to put their Euro bid on hold for a week after they were held to a goalless draw by Drogheda United at Turner's Cross last night.

Cork were missing Billy Dennehy through suspension and Joe Gamble, Tim Kiely and Dan Connor were on the injury list.

Shane Duggan who scored the winner against Rovers kept  his place on the left flank but Davin O'Neill who jarred his  knee in the warm up at Tallaght stafrted on the bench.

Drogheda with three wins in 10 outings welcomed back Conor Kenna from a match ban and with Ian Ryan at right-back that freed up James Chambers for a midfield role.

Cork were in bouyant mood after a fabulous 2-1 away win at Shamrock Rovers on Tuesday night but this was a lacklustre affair on a damp, drizzly night in the southern capital.

Shane Duggan had the ball in the Drogheda net after 10 minutes but the 'goal' was ruled out after Kuduzovic pushed an opponent in the box.

There was little in the way of excitement until the 25th minute when Danny Murphy was close to putting the ball into his own net.

James Chambers played Ross Gaynor in down the left channel and when his cross arrived in the six-yard box Murphy so nearly turned the ball past a hesitant Mark McNulty.

Apart from that, the majority of the crowd probably wished they had stayed down town to take in the Guinness Jazz Festival !
Just before half-ime, Cork broke out of defence with O'Donnell playing the ball wide to Gareth Cambridge but after he cut inside, his weak shot was easily gathered in by Paul Skinner.

Cambridge had another shot on the turn go wide and some brave defending by Danny Murphy blocked down a Chambers drive to ensure the first half ended goalless.

It was four minutes into the second half before Cork won their first corner but it came to nothing and then Kuduzovic fired a free kick wide.

Greg O'Halloran forced a great save from Skinner as City stepped up the tempo but Guntars Silagails was booked for a dive as the game petered out in the gathering gloom.

And the final insult for Cork was a red card for skipper Dan Murray who was booked for hands at a throw-in having been booked earlier. He now misses next week's home game with Dundalk.
