St. Patrick's Athletic recorded a vital three points against Bray Wanderers to improve their chances of avoiding a place in the promotion / relegation play-off.

The Saints defeated the Seagulls 2-0, a result that puts further pressure on Bray Wanderers. Eddie Gormley's side remain rooted to the foot of the table and are now 11 points behind St. Pat's.

Ryan Guy put the home side ahead on 31 minutes when he headed Stephen Maher's cross into the goal.

The Saints could have doubled their lead nine minutes later when they were awarded a penalty kick for a foul on Derek O'Brien. However, Chris O'Connor did superbly to push the spot kick around the post to keep the score at 1-0.

Bray came out fighting after the break but it was the home side who found the net again when on 69 minutes Damien Lynch glanced home a corner kick.

The visitors were given the perfect opportunity to get back into the game on 84 minutes when they were awarded a penalty kick after Jason Gavin handled in the area. However, Brendan Clarke saved Stephen Brennan's effort to keep the score at 2-0.
