Dundalk and St. Patrick's Athletic had to settle for one point each as they played out a scoreless draw in Oriel Park.

While the Lilywhites look set to secure fifth place, the result leaves St. Patrick's Athletic just one point above the relegation play-off zone.

Dundalk pressed early-on, with Michael McGowan and Chris Turner both testing the visitor's goal.

The breakthrough almost came on 9 minutes when Ger Rowe was in a good position but he was fouled by goalkeeper Brendan Clarke outside of the box.

Mark Quigley had good opportunities at the other end but goalkeeper Peter Cherrie was alert to the danger.

Neither side could make the breakthrough as they had to settle for one point each.
