Sligo Rovers secured a very important win at Richmond Park when they defeated St. Patrick's Athletic 2-0. The win puts the Bit O'Red within three points of the Saints, who are dragged deeper into relegation problems.

A quick-fire double from Raffaele Cretaro gave the visitors the three points. Cretaro put Sligo ahead on 14 minutes when he slotted home after being put through on goal. It was 2-0 five minutes later when Cretaro tapped home Matthew Blinkhorn's cross.

It was no more than the visitors deserved, as they pushed from the start, causing problems for the Saints defence from early on.

Only three points now separate these sides in the Premier Division table. Although Sligo Rovers remain in the relegation play-off zone, the form book suggests that they have every chance of overtaking the Saints. The teams that finish in 8th and 9th position - currently Sligo Rovers and Drogheda United - must play a once-off play-off match to determine which team will take part in the promotion / relegation play-off.

St Patrick's Athletic: Brendan Clarke; Damien Lynch, Jason Gavin, John Lester, Enda Stevens; Gareth O'Connor, Stuart Byrne, Gary Dempsey (Alan Cawley 89 mins), Darragh Ryan (Mark Leech 65 mins); Declan O'Brien (Barry Ryan 65 mins), Ryan Guy.

Sligo Rovers: Ciaran Kelly; Danny Ventre, Gavin Peers, Alan Keane, Joe Kendrick; Brian Cash, Conor O'Grady, Romauld Boco, Eoin Doyle (Richie Ryan 87 mins); Matthew Blinkhorn (Rob Turner 87 mins), Rafaele Cretaro.
