Cork City and Sligo Rovers played out a scoreless draw at Turner's Cross. Sligo went close to jumping into the lead after 16 minutes. Danny Ventre drove a shot at goal which cannoned off centre-back Kevin Long and hit the crossbar before goalkeeper Dan Connor knocked it away from goal.

The danger was not averted for Connor’s punch to the edge of the area fell kindly for Brian Cash but full-back Danny Murphy bravely threw himself in front of the Sligo player to charge down the shot.

Cork welcomed back Neal Horgan after minor surgery on a knee injury while Stephen O’Donnell was drafted into midfield in place of the injured Joe Gamble.

Still missing was the considerable figure of club captain Dan Murray who is recovering from a torn calf muscle but Cork expect him and Gamble to be back in the team for the visit of Derry City next week.

Sligo had Eoin Doyle back from suspension and he played on the left midfield of a 4-4-2 set up. They were made work hard to survive to half-time as Cork continued to set the pace and goalkeeper Brush was tested by O’Neill in the 40th minute.

Sligo’s Danny Ventre was booked after 55 minutes for a foul on O'Donnell but chances were few and far between in the second half.

The best two fell to Cork but Gareth Cambridge and Faz Kuduzovic, against his old club, were denied by the excellent Richard Brush in Sligo’s goal.
