Bohemians 3 Dundalk 2

Bohemians moved onto 58 points after securing a 3-2 victory over Dundalk at Dalymount Park on Friday evening,

Paul Keegan broke the deadlock for the home side before Ger Rowe pulled one back. Then two goals from Jason Byrne put Bohs in control and even though Michael McGowan scored late on, it wasn’t enough to inspire a comeback.

Bohs started brightly with Keegan storming in behind the Dundalk defence and almost connecting with Joseph Ndo’s reverse pass.

On 13 minutes, the champions took the lead when Killian Brennan’s corner was met by Paddy Madden, whose header appeared to be on its way in before Keegan got the final touch.

Dundalk drew level following a mistake from Matt Gregg, whose attempted clearance fell straight to Rowe. The former Bray Wanderers man wasted no time as he chipped the ball into an empty net from long-range.

However, it took only four minutes for Bohs to regain the upper hand when Jason Byrne finished off a fine move that saw the striker peel away from his marker before slotting in from inside the penalty area.

Byrne then made sure of the win inside the opening minutes of the second half when he buried a well executed strike past keeper Peter Cherrie to move onto 18 league goals this season.

Michael McGowan lit up the scoreboard in favour of the away team when his free-kick took a deflection before flying into the back of the net.

Dundalk were dealt a further blow when Michael Collins was sent off after picking up his second yellow card of the game.
