Wallace predicts bright '09
Wexford Youths boss Mick Wallace is predicting a bright 2009 for his side, as they look to continue their progress in the League of Ireland.

Now in their third season as a league club, Wallace says that he believes his squad is stronger than ever and ready to make a big impact in the First Division this season.

"We’re optimistic for the season," he told loi.ie. "We finished ahead of one team in our first year and ahead of three last season, so this year we’re aiming to finish ahead of half a dozen. We have good young players and we will be stronger than last season.”

Wexford open their campaign with a tricky away tie to Shelbourne but then face Waterford United at home in the second series of matches.

“It’s a good fixture list for us," reflects Wallace. "We’re away to Harps and Mervue once each, which we’re happy with because they are the longest trips, and we are playing in Dublin six times, which is also handy. Shelbourne away on the opening night will be tough. Shels are probably second favourites behind Fingal to take the title, so it will be a test. We have Waterford at home on the second week and that is great because that is our derby game and we would expect a fantastic crowd at Ferrycarrig Park for that match."
