Shamrock Rovers moved to joint third in the Premier Division table after over-coming Galway United 1-0 at the Tallaght Stadium. Michael O'Neill's side took the points after Dessie Baker scored after 52 minutes for what would prove the game's only goal. Rovers could have opened the scoring after 48 minutes but Greg Cameron's penalty kick was saved by Barry Ryan. Incredibly, it was Rovers' third missed penalty at their new stadium, after both Shane Robinson and Sean O'Connor had missed spot kicks in previous matches. The win moves Rovers to joint third in the league table, level on points with Cork City. The winning goal came on 52 minutes when Sean O'Connor crossed from the left and Dessie Baker found himself in acres of space to head home. Shamrock Rovers: Murphy, Bermingham, Price, Sives, Treacy (Flynn '42), Purcell, Rice, Cameron, O'Connor, Baker (Cahill '81), Twigg (Robinson '77). Galway United: Ryan, Connelly, Cooke, Breen, Guthrie, O'Shea, McGrath, Molloy (Edwards '71), McBrien, Faherty, Davoren. Subs: O'Toole, Sinnott, Kelly, Hanley. Referee: T Connolly. |
