DERRY City extended their unbeaten run to six matches at the Brandywell but the dismissal of Clive Delaney could well cause the "Candystripes" problems after the mid-season break.

But it was a victory the home side deserved given the balance of play, Derry now moving four points clear of third placed Cork City and one point adrift of leaders, Bohemians.

Derry got off to a superb start and when Bray failed to adequately clear their lines, Kevin Deery’s shot from 18 yards deflected off the foot of a defender, the ball dipping over the head of Bray keeper, Chris O’Connor.

The home side may have owned the ball for long periods in the first half but they failed to seriously test O’Connor until the 37th minute when doubling their lead.

On that occasion and low cross from the right flank was controlled by James McClean and when he set-up Mark Farren, the striker swivelled to drill the ball low to the net from 14 yards.

Eddie Gormley opted to dispense with his loan striker, with substitute John Mulroy joining Paul Byrne on the hour and the visitors began to threaten.

McCabe flashed another shot wide of the target two minutes later as Bray seemed to gain new life following the change in formation.

In the 66th minute Derry keeper, Ger Doherty, had to be alert when another McCabe shot had been deflected.

Derry’s cause was not helped following the sending-off of Clive Delaney, in the 75th minute. Referee, Dave McKeon, well placed to watch the centre-half kick-out at Bray’s Paddy Kavanagh and he produced  a straight red card.

But 10 man Derry squandered a glorious to end the game as a contest in the 80th minute when Morrow’s flick-on sent Gareth McGlynn scampering clear but the winger flashed his shot high over the crossbar.
