LATE goals from Gary Twigg and substitute Dessie Baker gave Shamrock Rovers victory over Dundalk at Tallaght Stadium.   Michael Daly’s second-half equalizer had looked to have given Sean Connor’s side a crucial point, following successive defeats, but Twigg popped up in the 87th minute to put Rovers back into the lead with his second goal of the game and substitute Dessie Baker sealed the win in added time. It was the visitors who created the first real chance of the game in the 27th minute and full back Shaun Kelly really should have put his side ahead once he was played through on goal by Turner, once the midfielder had drove at the Rovers defence, but he could only fire into the side netting from a tight angle. Despite struggling to break down a physical Dundalk defence, the home side can always carve something out of nothing with in-form striker Gary Twigg on the pitch and he only needed one chance to open the scoring in the 36th minute Aidan Price’s long ball down the left channel looked harmless enough until Twigg found himself with a free run on goal courtesy of Dundalk’s fragile offside trap and he calmly lifted the ball over the advancing Chris Bennion in goal. That lead stayed intact until and beyond half time, with Twigg forcing Bennion into a fine save with his legs early in the second half and Bradley going close from distance, before Dundalk stunned their hosts with an equalizer. Darren Mansaram did well to pull the ball back from the byeline as Shaun Kelly’s long free kick headed out of play and Michael Daly was on hand to poke the ball into the net on the line, before sprinting to the half-way line to celebrate with his manager. Ger Rowe and Mansaram both went close as Dundalk pushed for the winner but with a draw looking most likely Twigg popped up, as he did last month with his late double against Bohemians, to head home at the back post, before Baker sealed the win with a clever lob in added time.
