Jamie Duffy rescued a point for Drogheda United at the Tallaght Stadium after his late strike earned a 1-1 draw with Shamrock Rovers.

Duffy struck with just five minute remaining after a mix-up between defender Aidan Price and goalkeeper Barry Murphy. The ex-Shamrock Rovers forward nipped in between Price and Murphy to salvage a draw from a game Rovers should have won comfortably.

Gary Twigg fired the Hoops in front on 44 minutes, the Scottish striker netting from close range after a goalyard scramble.

The Hoops were disappointing in the first half but came to life in the second half and should have doubled their lead early in the second half when they were awarded a penalty kick after Alan McNally handballed a cross into the penalty area. However, Sean O'Connor's spot kick was saved by Steve Williams.

O'Connor, Twigg, Amond and Purcell all had further chances for Rovers, yet the Hoops were made pay for their wastefulness in front of goal when Duffy struck in the dying moments.
