St. Patrick's Athletic 2-2 Sligo Rovers
Friday, 15 May 2009 09:50

St Patrick's Athletic put an end to their losing streak by drawing 2-2 with Sligo Rovers at Richmond Park on Friday evening.

Gareth O'Connor put The Super Saints ahead when his well-hit shot managed to puzzle the Sligo defence and outwit keeper Richard Brush, who failed to keep it out.

It wasn't long after the hosts took the lead that Sligo hit back. A short corner was taken to Shaun Holmes, who crossed for Gavin Peers to head his side back level.

The Inchicore outfit looked more refreshed than in their recent defeat to Cork City and passed the ball well for the most part. O'Connor and Alan Cawley combined well in midfield, while Mark Quigley was a threat up front.

So it was not that surprising when they went into the lead for a second time. Cawley unleashed a fearsome strike to score against his hometown club and put St Pat's in control.

Jeff Kenna's side appeared to be on their way to claiming a much-needed home win before Alan Keane popped up with a late equalisier.
