Dundalk moved out of the relegation play-off zone with a vital win over Galway United at Oriel Park. The win moves Dundalk into 6th place, just two points behind the Tribesmen. A goal from Declan O'Brien was enough to give the Lilywhites the three points, after the former Drogheda United striker scored the only goal of the game on 31 minutes. Shaun Kelly threaded the ball through for O'Brien to race onto and lift over the advancing Barry Ryan. John Russell blazed Galway's best chance over the bar in the ninth minute, while O'Brien and Tiarnan Mulvenna both squandered opportunities to seal the win for Dundalk in the second-half. Match-winner O'Brien was dismissed in stoppage time after receiving two yellow cards in quick succession.
