Billy Dennehy struck the only goal of the game as Cork City maintained their remarkable run of form to move into second place in the Premier Division table.

The Rebel Army overtake Derry City in the league table and are now three points behind leaders Bohemians.

Dennehy struck after just 16 minutes after Cork City started the game brightly. Fahrudin Kudozovic broke down the right and his low cross found its way to Dennehy, who made no mistake from inside the penalty area.

It was no less than the home side deserved, and they were unlucky not to stretch their lead before the break as Dan Murray and Dennehy had good chances to double their advantage.

The second half was a different story as Ian Foster's Galway United team came flying out of the traps and took the game to the home side.

However, for all their possession, Galway created very little in terms of opportunites, with the Cork City defence well able to cope with everything thrown at them.
