| FAI Ford Cup 4th Rnd: Longford Town 1 Bohemians 3 |
| Saturday, 27 August 2011 23:36 |
|
KILLIAN BRENNAN was the inspiration for Bohemians as they overcame a 1-0 deficit to beat Longford Town and move into the FAI Cup quarter finals. Scorer of the third Bohs goal – and creator of the second – Brennan had a game to remember after an opening half hour when Bohs looked like having a night to forget. Things looked ominous when Craig Walsh gave the Midlanders a 13th minute lead, a looping header after Cathal Brady had created the chance for him with a fine run and cross. But Bohs overcame their sticky start to find their way back into the game. Fine saves from Alvin Rouse denied Aidan Downes and Brennan before Downes equalised in the 34th minutes, placing Ger O’Brien’s cross into the corner of Rouse’s net. Seven minutes into the second half, Bohs took the lead via an own goal, the unlucky Chris Deans at fault for miskicking Brennan’s corner into his own net. Then, nine minutes from time, Brennan got the goal his performance deserved, a curling lob which left Rouse flatfooted. LONGFORD TOWN: Rouse; Dowling, Deans, Hope, Cronin; Crawley (Skelly 49), Walsh (Lee 64), Hyland, Sammon, Brady; Cowan (Purdy 76) BOHEMIANS: Sexton; Heary, Burns, Price (Rossiter 46), Cahill; O’Brien, Hurley, Cronin (Buckley 85), Brennan; Flood, Downes (Fagan 74) REFEREE: R Winters (Wicklow) |
