EA SPORTS Cup Semi-final: Cork City 3 Limerick FC 1 (AET)
Monday, 08 August 2011 22:00

CORK CITY clinched a Munster derby victory over Limerick FC to secure a place in the EA SPORTS Cup Final after a thrilling semi-final at Turner's Cross went to extra-time.

An extra-time penalty from substitute Vincent Escudé-Candau and a Graham Cummins finish in the 118th minute decided a tense fixture.

Limerick took the lead in the 13th minute when Peter Hynes curled home after the ball ran loose following a Shane Duggan tackle on Paudie Quinn.

City's equaliser also came from a spot-kick as Davin O'Neill fired home in the 28th minute following a Peter White challenge on Cork winger Derek O'Brien.

Vinny Sullivan should have put the home side ahead just before half-time but he fired wide after Gavin Kavanagh headed across goal from a deep Danny Murphy free-kick.

O'Brien and Graham Cummins both had further chances in the second half to put Cork ahead but they missed the target.

Limerick could have snatched it at the death when Quinn's shot was cleared off the line by defender Murphy.

In the 103rd minute in extra-time Cork won a penalty after Sullivan was taken down by Brian McCarthy and Escudé-Candau found the net from the spot-kick.

Top scorer Graham Cummins wrapped up the scoring two minutes from time with an 118th minute finish after Cork scored on the counter-attack.

Tommy Dunne's Cork City side will face the winners of the outstanding Sligo Rovers- Derry City semi-final on September 24.
