A hat-trick from Jeffrey Judge eased Limerick into the last four of the EA Sports Cup at Jackman Park.
With Friday's top of the table league clash with Shelbourne in mind, Monaghan boss Roddy Collins elected to field an under-strength side which included a debut for his son Roddy junior in defence.
Midfielder Judge struck for the lead goal after just six minutes when finishing off Stephen McGann’s cross.
Thomas Lyons then slotted home a penalty to double the lead nine minutes before the break.
Judge scored his second to make it 3-0 ten minutes into the second half to end the game as a contest when he fired home following a good advantaged played by referee Graham Kelly after a foul on Paudie Quinn.
Judge completed his hat-trick on 65 minutes with Garbhan Coughlan adding the fifth eight minutes later.
