CORK CITY secured their place in the the semi-finals of the EA Sports Cup thanks to a second half winner from Graham Cummins against St Patrick's Athletic.
Leading scorer Cummins bagged for the winner in the 71st minute when he latched onto Vincent Escude-Candau's pass before producing a curling effort to beat Chris Bennion in the Saints goal. The Saints were unfortunate not to send the game into extra-time thanks to City keeper Mark McNulty's stunning double save to deprive Dave Mulcahy and Daryl Kavanagh in stoppage time. Escude-Candau also created Cork’s opening goal in the 19th minute when he set up Derek O’Brien to fire home. St Pat's - who had been on a 12-game unbeaten run - equalised 13 minutes into the second half when defender Neil Harney headed home from a Sean Stewart cross. |
