EA SPORTS Cup holders Sligo Rovers have been drawn away to promotion-chasing Shelbourne in the quarter-finals of the competition. Paul Cook's side can expect a serious test in their last eight tie at Tolka Park against Alan Mathews' side. The sold all Premier Division tie in the draw made on RTE's MNS was the pairing of UCD and record holders Derry City Rovers boss Cook told RTE's MNS: “I’ve seen Shelbourne play at Longford this year. They’re a very good side with good players and obviously in Alan Mathews they’ve a very good manager. It’ll be a very difficult tie for us but one we look forward to. “The cup last year was my first trophy as a manager. The club hadn’t won anything in a few years and it was a springboard for the FAI Ford Cup success later in the year.” Cork City boss Tommy Dunne told MNS that he was looking forward to seeing his side tackle Premier Division opponents in the EA SPORTS Cup quarter-finals. He said: “It’s a good draw for us. A Premier Division opponent. St Pat’s are a strong team but being at home in Turner’s Cross is good for us. We’re going well at home this year and hopefully we can continue that in the cup. “From our side of things, the supporters and the club want to be competing against the likes of St Pat’s, Derry City and the top clubs. A game like this at home to St Pat’s give us a chance to see if we can compete against teams in the higher division. It’s where we want to be ultimately. Our division is tough, the teams are strong and the top six have started well. The players will look forward to this game and they’ll be well motivated for it.” EA SPORTS Cup quarter-final draw: |
