EA Sports Cup: Monaghan Utd 2 Dundalk 1 (AET)
Monday, 25 April 2011 19:14

DECLAN O'BRIEN maintained his goalscoring spree with a fifth in as many games as Monaghan came from behind to dump Dundalk out of the EA Sports Cup.

United eliminated the Lilywhites from the competition at the semi-final stage at Gortakeegan last year.

Dundalk opened the scoring on 21 minutes when Keith Ward's superbly struck free-kick beat Monaghan keeper Gabriel Sava.

But Monaghan battled back and levelled to force extra-time on 80 minutes when Philip Byrne headed home Sean Brennan's cross.

Nine minutes in, O'Brien struck to win it for Monaghan when shooting past Sava.
