Sligo face unique test of EA Sports Cup defence
Sunday, 24 April 2011 19:43

EA Sports Cup holders Sligo Rovers face a trip into the unknown on Easter Monday evening when they meet Ulster Senior League side Cockhill Celtic.

The clash between the Inishowen outfit and Paul Cook's full-time outfit is the fairytale tie of the Third Round of the EA Sports Cup.

Celtic face the biggest game in the club’s history when they host the Bit O’Red at Maginn Park.

Managed by former Derry City and Finn Harps midfielder Donal O’Brien, the Inishowen side shocked Galway United in the previous round.

Sligo - who play their first game in this year's competition - are without suspended Richie Ryan while Raffaele Cretaro and Alan Kirby are doubts because of illness. Matthew Blinkhorn continues his return from a back injury.

Rovers boss Paul Cook said: “We respect every opponent and Cockhill are no different. They beat Galway in the last round so that tells you about their side and the work they have put in to get here. This trophy was very important for us last year and we’d like to do as well as we can in the competition once again.â€
