Hoops get solid first leg win in Lisburn
Tuesday, 15 March 2011 15:58

SHAMROCK ROVERS had three newcomers all on the scoresheet as they secured a 3-0 first leg victory in their Setanta Sports Cup quarter-final tie against Lisburn Distillery on Monday.

The Hoops will go into the second leg with control of the tie thanks to goals from Karl Sheppard, Ciaran Kilduff and Dean Kelly.

Former Everton and Galway United striker Sheppard broke the deadlock at New Grosvenor Park when he saw his shot deflected home in the 35th minute.

Five minutes later Rovers extended their lead when Kilduff fired past Philip Matthews in the home goal.

Former Oldham Athletic striker Dean Kelly wrapped the scoring up in the 67th minute following a move involving Kilduff and Pat Sullivan, who fired over a cross for Kelly to steer home.

The home side had Mark Cooling dismissed late in the second half.

In the other game on the night, Cliftonville beat Crusaders 4-2. George McMullan put the home side ahead in the 25th minutes but Jonathan Magee levelled seven minutes later.

Crusaders then took the lead on 53 minutes through Michael Halliday but the home side finished strongly with Dermot McVeigh making it 2-2 in the 71st minute.

Stephen Garrett put the Reds ahead with five minutes remaining and Mark Holland hit number four 60 seconds later. Crusaders had David Gibson sent-off in the 78th minute.
