MONAGHAN UNITED will meet Galway United in the promotion-relegation play-off this week after finishing third in the First Division.

Athlone Town 0 Monaghan United 5

MONAGHAN UNITED blitzed Athlone at Lissywollen to clinch a promotion play-off clash with Galway United.

Roddy Collins' side took control early on and goals inside two minutes from Jordan Keegan and Declan O'Brien had them in command by the 24th minute.

Defender Aidan Collins effectively sealed the win with a third goal four minutes before half-time.

Sean Brennan added a fourth before Monaghan had midfielder Keith Quinn sent off on 66 minutes.

But it mattered not, and Keegan added his second goal of the night eight minute later.

Monaghan now host Galway in the first leg of the play-off at Gortakeegan on Tuesday night before the return at Terryland park on Friday.

Limerick FC 3 Waterford United 0

Sean Brosnan, Pat Purcell and Denis Behan scored the goals to give Limerick victory on the last day, but it wasn't enough as Pat Scully's side's fourth place finish means they miss out on the shake up for promotion.

Striker Brosnan volleyed Limerick ahead on 29 minutes.

Skipper Purcell doubled Limerick's lead when heading home a 75th minute corner.

Denis Behan added the third goal two minutes into stoppage time.

Mervue United 1 Finn Harps 0

Alex Lee scored the only goal of the game to give Mervue a last day win at Fahy's Field.

With 86 minutes gone, striker David Goldbey had a shot cleared up into the air by retreating defender Packie Mailey. But Alex Lee following up to score from the rebound.

Wexford Youths 5 Salthill Devon 2

Wexford Youths came from 2-0 down to record their biggest win of the season at Ferrycarrig Park.

Devon midfielder James Whelan appeared to have them in control having scored twice inside the opening 16 minutes.

But an own goal by keeper Adrian Faherty got Youths back into it on 23 minutes before Darragh Walshe levelled three minutes before the break.

Tom Elmes then put Youths in front on 57 minutes.

Paul Malone put Youths further ahead in the 69th minute before Dean Broaders added the fifth goal  two minutes from time.
