Shelbourne 1 Cork City 2 GRAHAM CUMMINS scored a late, late winner to snatch the Airtricity League First Division title from the grasp of Shelbourne in dramatic fashion at Tolka Park.  Already promoted Shelbourne looked like they would hold out to lift the trophy. But Cork, even though the draw would have had them up anyway, pressed until the end and got their reward in the fourth minute of added time at the death. Substitute Derek O’Brien got by his man on the left wing to cross and Cummins beat Dean Delany with a downward header for his 24th goal of the season. Roared on by a big following in the 3,277 attendance, Cork had the dream of the lead goal after just four minutes. Shels failed to deal with a ball into the box from right-back Neal Horgan. It pinballed around before breaking loose for winger Daryl Horgan who drilled it low to the back of the net from 16 yards. But Alan Mathews' side responded well to level on 27 minutes. Philly Hughes pounced on a Cork mistake to send David Cassidy away and the in-form skipper scored with a cool finish from a tight angle. |
