SHELBOURNE ran out comfortable winners over Salthill Devon to keep in the promotion hunt.
Salthill Devon 1 Shelbourne 4
David Cassidy and Philly Hughes both scored twice as FAI Ford Cup finalists Shelbourne cruised to victory against bottom side Salthill Devon at Drom to move second in the First Division table.
Victory over Finn Harps at Tolka Park on Tuesday night will now confirm Shels’ promotion back to the Premier Division after a five year absence.
In-form skipper Cassidy put Shels in front on 13 minutes when his shot took a deflection off defender Cian Fadden to beat keeper Adrian Faherty.
Topscorer Hughes doubled Shels’ lead nine minutes later when converting winger Brendan McGill’s cross.
Hughes then made it 26 goals for the season in total when forcing home a corner seven minutes into the second half.
Devon pulled a goal back through Brian Geraghty on 65 minutes.
But Cassidy had the final say when converting an 85th minute penalty after Philip Gorman had been taken down in the box.
Finn Harps 4 Wexford Youths 1
Finn Harps gave their fans plenty of cheer with a four goal first half as they finished their home fixtures with a big win.
Kevin McHugh ran onto Gareth Harkin’s clever backheel pass to shoot past keeper Sean Allen to give Harps a seventh minute lead.
Scarcely a minute later, winger Kevin Devaney outran defender James Darmondy to beat Allen for a second time.
McHugh set up Barry O’Mahoney to rifle in Harps’ third goal on 28 minutes.
Five minutes later it was 4-0 when Harkin beat Allen again after good build up play involving O’Mahoney and McHugh.
Ben Ryan got a consolation goal back for Youths on 59 minutes.
